Ardkinglas and FiddleFolk present the premiere of Mike Vass’s DecemberWell project and CD
MIKE VASS (fiddle) has a significant and growing reputation as a composer. Winner of the inaugural Neil Gow International Composition Award, Mike is one of Scotland’s foremost tunesmiths. Indeed, the Scots Magazine calls him ‘a master of the contemporary Scottish music scene’.
MAIREARAD GREEN (accordion) is one of Scotland’s finest musical exports, winner of the PRS Composer of the Year award at the 2009 MG Alba Scots Music
INNES WATSON (guitar) Winner of the ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ category in the 2011 Scots Trad Music Awards.
FI VASS (piano/percussion) is a gifted songwriter and pianist.
In the first half the band will perform sets of Scottish Traditional music; in the second half they will premiere Mike’s new work ‘DecemberWell’.
Mike says ‘December has always held a great fascination for me. It’s amazing that in such a dark, cold and often bleak month, we celebrate with some of our warmest, light-filled festivals. The simple beauty of winter is the backdrop for cherished reunions with family and old friends and the celebration of our shared history and culture. In this album I wanted to explore these ideas instrumentally and tried to capture the widely differing, magical aspects of December.’
