Awards For All Junior Recital

In February 2014 Lochgoilhead Fiddle Workshop was awarded funding from ‘Awards for All Scotland’,  to establish a Junior Fiddle Workshop.

One year and 26 lessons later the junior members held a recital and presentation ceremony on Wednesday 18th March to mark the end of their first year. Parents and friends gathered in Strachur hall and the juniors demonstrated their skills, supported by their tutor, Siobhan Anderson.

They played solos, including theme tunes from The Pirates of the Caribbean and  Indiana Jones as well as the more  traditional Aran Boat Song and Coulter’s Candy (Ally BallyBee  – a  lullaby to which they added a strong tripling effect at the end, sure  to waken any baby!) The Juniors also performed some group work, showing how differing abilities can all play together. They were brilliant!

Tutor Siobhan then performed for the audience. The children were awe-stricken by their talented teacher and obviously inspired by her playing. Each pupil received a copy of ‘The First Ceilidh Collection’ tune-book with an accompanying C.D.  Each book was inscribed with the name of the recipient, and signed by tutor Siobhan Anderson. The juniors were also presented with a certificate to put up on their wall. Siobhan was presented with an inscribed Easter egg!

The recital was followed by a delicious spread, courtesy of the workshop.

These two classes will continue for one block after Easter, then if there is sufficient interest from new learners / players we will hold a ‘come and try’ session  with  a view to continuing after the summer holidays.
