Siobhan Anderson

 

Siobhan Anderson was appointed resident tutor of LFW in September 2013. 

Brought up in the small Perthshire village of Killin, Siobhan began playing fiddle at the age of 11. She was taught by Jan Green at McLaren High School, as well as receiving lessons from Ruaridh Campbell in Glasgow. Siobhan also attended many Fèisean across the country where she was taught by some of the best traditional musicians on the scene.

In 2007 she went on to study BA Applied Music at Strathclyde University under the tuition of Alistair McCulloch. Under his recommendation, Siobhan attended Alasdair Fraser’s prestigious Valley of the Moon Fiddle Camp in California where she learned from tutors such as Martin Hayes and Laura Cortese. Siobhan Anderson

In 2011, Siobhan graduated with a first class honours and was awarded the Alexander Stone Prize for excellence in solo performance. Since then she has toured all over the world with various acts including Indie band French Wives. After winning the Scotsman Radar prize in 2010, they were invited to perform at the acclaimed SXSW Festival in Austin Texas, as well as Candian Music Week in Toronto. They released their debut album in 2011 and performed at many festivals including T in the Park, Rockness and Wickerman.

Siobhan has also been a member of Rachel Sermanni’s band since meeting in Glasgow during her time at university. She has made three recordings with Rachel and performed on various occasions at Celtic Connections after winning a Danny Kyle award. She was also featured on the Hogmanay Show 2013 as well as performing in Canada and across Europe with Rachel and the band.

At the moment, Siobhan is performing a lot with Ceilidh band Whisky Kiss, who have played all over the world including New York Tartan Week, Shanghai, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Washington DC.

Siobhan enjoys teaching and is heavily involved in The Fèisean movement. She teaches in Stirling for Fèis Fhoirt as well as acting as their ceilidh trail co-ordinator and administrator.
