First of Many

Saturday, 25th November was LFW’S first home made mixed instrument workshop.

Held in Strachur Memorial hall, even the weather didn’t deter folk; they came from Oban, Ardrishaig, Dunoon and some from Strachur!

The day started, as customary, with a cup of tea and a biscuit, quickly followed by tuning up and a warm welcome to every one. Musical instruments ranged from fiddle to mandolin, guitar and concertina. A really good mix.

John Kelly had agreed to lead the morning session and the group worked on a simple but beautiful gaelic waltz, Teann a Nall. He had composed two harmonies for this tune and we all enjoyed learning the melody as well as the harmonies. You can hear us playing by clicking on the link below. I hope you agree that we made a really nice sound.

After lunch we enjoyed a slow session playing tunes that participants had brought with them, some new one and some of our old favourites. This was followed by Dave Dunlop on concertina, teaching us a Donald Riddell tune, The Snipe.

You can download the sheet music for Teann a Nall and The Snipe in our downloads section here.
